Psychology Research Guide: Ethics in Psychology

Ethics

The current ethical codes used by the American Psychological Association and American Psychiatric Association can be found on their sites:

1. Identify an unethical study that interests you. We suggest selecting one from your textbook or class lectures, or from the following lists:

2. Find the original study report. If you haven't been able to find the full-text of the study you're interested in, try searching for the title in SmartSearch or Google Scholar. We have a short tutorial that'll show you how to track down documents here.

3. Find articles about that study. Try searching in EBSCO or another Library database (there's a list of helpful ones here). Use names or keywords specific to the experiment to try to find peer-reviewed articles. For example, to find articles about the Little Albert experiment in 1920, a simple search for (“Little Albert” AND experiment) will bring up some relevant results.
