History Resources: Web Resources

This group is for any history teacher interested in sharing online sources and teaching ideas to improve the quality of history teaching and learning in high schools and universities.

CHNM uses digital media and technology to preserve and present history online, transform scholarship across the humanities, and advance historical education and understanding.

The Center for the Study of Work, Labor, and Democracy is an interdisciplinary research and education initiative at the University of California, Santa Barbara that aims to expand public understanding and discussion of important issues facing working people.

The purpose of the project is to explore the historical connections between producers and consumers of basic commodities and finished goods across the globe and over time. By linking up individual producers and consumers, the project seeks to casts a new light on the standard world historical narrative, with its emphasis on large scale change.

Primary and secondary sources that include documents and maps.

In each issue of Origins, an academic expert will analyze a particular current issue –political, cultural, or social –in a larger, deeper context. In addition to the analysis provided by each month’s feature, Origins will also include images, maps, graphs and other material to complement the essay.

The Culturally Authentic Pictorial Lexicon (CAPL) was conceived in 2003 by Michael Shaughnessy and Jason Parkhill at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, PA. The initial pilot project created a dictionary database of over 1,000 unique entries for the German language through a grant from W&J College.

The main objective of IdentiNet is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the history of identification practices on a global scale since 1500, by coordinating international research and fostering structured exchange among twenty-two widely dispersed experts whose interests range across periods, geographies and disciplines.
