In your blog post you will talk about Drosophila as model organism, and then you will present one of the many species of Drosophila. There are 12 sequenced Drosophila species, for a list see:
Choose one species, first from the 12 already sequenced ones, then from the ones being sequenced now (the first choice from those should be D. biarmipes, as this is the one lab students will be working with).
Your posting will have a minimum of 500 words and will contain the following information:
• One paragraph background to explain why Drosophila is a relevant model system.
• Quick overview of Drosophila species (you can use a diagram with a 1-2 sentence explanation).
• Description of the characteristics of your chosen species.
It will contain at least 1 picture (of your chosen species), but it can contain more as long as it is pertinent to the material. You can only use pictures (or any other media) that are NOT copyrighted. Best way to find this is to use pictures from Wikimedia Commons, or images that have a Creative Commons license. There are many of those in flickr. If you do image search, be sure to link to the actual image (not the thumbnail showing up in the search).
