Haunted Houses
Module 3 Research Assignment:
Find a primary text produced at approximately the same time (within 5 years) as one of the readings this week. For your 500-word write up, quote or describe a relevant section/word/detail of the primary text and explain how it interacts with one of this week's literary readings. What does the primary text help to reveal about cultural beliefs or associations of the period, or how does it inflect our understanding of a word or concept? What context does it provide for the piece of literature? How might it change, slightly or significantly, the way we interpret the literary text?
Below you will find a selection of educational videos from the 1950's. These and many others were produced by Coronet Films throughout the 50's and 60's. A partial archive of digitized Coronet Films videos can be found here - check the right side of the page to limit the archive by topic.
Many advertisements from the 1950s, both for television and print media, are available on the open web. A small sample can be found below, but be sure to do some searching around on your own. Search Google or YouTube for "1950's advertisements appliance" to find more.
A relatively unknown Google gem is their partial digitized archive of Life Magazine. You can search across all digitized issues, as well as browse the full text of individual issues - including the advertisements.
