Week Three Assignment

Assess the competitiveness of the industry.
Look at the size and importance of the various firms in the industry and determine how they interact. Are they cooperative or competitive with one another?
Collect information on the size of the most important firms in the industry and the size of the entire industry itself. This means collecting the names of and sales of those firms.

Industry Research

Statista Use Statista to find industry outlook information. Click on the "outlook" tab on the homepage and select "industry outlook" to view a list of industries. Use Statista to search for infographics, statistics, graphs, data, and more for your report. EBSCO Business Source Premier
Use EBSCO to read detailed Industry Profiles. Click on "Industry Profiles" under the Browse menu on the right of the page to find a list of industry profiles.
Mergent Online
Use Mergent Online to find detailed publicly traded company information and reports.
D & B Key Business Ratios
Use this to find industry ratios for Price & Volume, Financial Strength, Management Effectiveness, and Profitability.

Log In Information for accessing D&B Key Business Ratios
1. Click on the "OPENATHENS LOGIN" button at the top of the page.
2. Type National University in the box to find your institution.
3. Click on National University.
4. Choose the Sign in for National University Students, Faculty, and Staff using Single Sign-On.
5. On the next screen, enter the username and password that you use for class.
6. Click on the "Ratios" link to see the ratios.

Proquest
Use Proquest's business database collection to find company reports, industry reports, articles, and more. Enter an industry name in the advanced search section and select "industry report" under document type. To find a company report, type the company name in the search bar and select "company report" under document type.

NAICS/SIC codes are codes the U.S. federal government assigns to businesses to collect data and create reports. Knowing your industry's NAICS/SIC codes is useful for industry research and can help you find information on your industry, competitors, regulations, and more.

How to Search For an Industry Code

https://www.census.gov/naics/

Search by keyword to find your industry code. (for example tobacco, agriculture, pharmaceutical, etc.)
