Week Three Assignment

  • Assess the competitiveness of the industry.
  • Look at the size and importance of the various firms in the industry and determine how they interact. Are they cooperative or competitive with one another?
  • Collect information on the size of the most important firms in the industry and the size of the entire industry itself. This means collecting the names of and sales of those firms.

Industry Research

Log In Information for accessing D&B Key Business Ratios
1. Click on the "OPENATHENS LOGIN" button at the top of the page.
2. Type National University in the box to find your institution.
3. Click on National University.
4. Choose the Sign in for National University Students, Faculty, and Staff using Single Sign-On.
5. On the next screen, enter the username and password that you use for class.
6. Click on the "Ratios" link to see the ratios.

NAICS/SIC codes are codes the U.S. federal government assigns to businesses to collect data and create reports. Knowing your industry's NAICS/SIC codes is useful for industry research and can help you find information on your industry, competitors, regulations, and more.

How to Search For an Industry Code

https://www.census.gov/naics/

Search by keyword to find your industry code. (for example tobacco, agriculture, pharmaceutical, etc.)
