APA Style

SAGE Research Methods is a searchable collection of books and tutorial videos on research methods. Use it to search for definitions and how-tos on the methods that interest you.

SAGE Research Methods Planner

SAGE Research Methods's Project Planner will walk you step-by-step from defining your topic and developing your research question to writing up. It'll also provide definitions for any vocabulary (like the names of methods) that might be new to you. You can access it here.


Citation Managers

Citation managers are apps that allow you to collect and manage citaiton information, and to export citations and reference lists into Word or Google Docs. Most of them also allow you to share articles, notes, and lists of citations with groups. If you're working on a major research project and need to track lots of sources, having a citaiton manager can save you a lot of time. There's a lengthy comparison chart for citation managers available here, but the (free) managers that we recommend are

  • Zotero: Zotero's Quick-Start Guide is located here.
  • Mendeley: You can browse Mendeley's setup and use tutorials here.

You can find student dissertations and theses from NU and other universities using ProQuest Dissertations and Theses.

Their tutors are available seven days a week (with the exception of University holidays) and offers 40-minute synchronous online sessions using Zoom web conferencing software, email, telephone, or a combination of these tools.
