Pediatrics Resources: APA

Why We Cite

We cite our sources in academic writing in order to demonstrate that we:

  • Know who the important researchers are in a particular field;
  • Are well-read and have incorporated relevant scholarly arguments into the body of our work;
  • Take into account those of others in formulating our views and arguments;
  • Contribute to an ongoing conversation.

As an academic writer, we use citations in order to provide context, intellectual credibility, resources to investigate, and acknowledge the works of others.

The following video discusses how to format:

  • the title page with a running head (0:54) and page numbers (1:37);
  • the subsequent pages of your paper with a different header (3:22);
  • the main text of the paper using section headings (4:25);
  • in-text citations (5:55);
  • the References page.(6:27).
